This course is specifically tailored for ophthalmology trainees undertaking the Royal College of Ophthalmologist’s Refraction Certificate Exam. The course provides ophthalmology trainees an opportunity to gain and develop knowledge in order to achieve the required exam competencies.

Topics covered in the course include:

  • Vision and Prescriptions
  • Lens neutralisation by hand and with a manual focimeter – incorporating the near addition and prisms
  • Cycloplegic retinoscopy
  • Non-cycloplegic retinoscopy
  • Subjective refraction – incorporating refinement of the sphere, cylinder, near addition and binocular balancing techniques

Trainees will also be exposed to OSCE style questions followed by guidance on patient interaction and essential communication pointers during the OSCE.

All trainees are welcome to attend – from beginners to those wishing to supplement existing knowledge.

The one day course is delivered on a one-to-one or one-to-two basis and can be tailored to suit each trainee’s requirements. The price for a one-to-one course is £375 and a one-to-two course is £275 per trainee. Bespoke courses will vary in price – please contact Optocoach for further information.
